La Gatoteca Helps Cats Find Adopted Homes

The space is filled with beds, toys, and spaces for the cats to lounge, play, and be comfortable in their everyday lives. To make them feel even more at home and comfortable overall, the cats all have names, because in “La Gatoteca”, they’re all family. Pictured, you will see Olaf lounging on his favorite bed.

ABRIGA, a non-profit organization that works exclusively with cats, came into the picture to help La Gatoteca become a reality in October of 2013. Because of Covid-19, it shut in 2020, but it reopened in 2021 at a different location.
Every day, you will find different cats in the cat room, since not all of them are there are the same time. The space has a private room on the lower floor where the other cats are in order to ensure their well-being. This way, the staff can also make sure that the cats who are in the cat room are ready and in the mood to play and receive the affection of the visitors.

The public is able to enter this space to play with the cats, pet them, and take pictures with them or of them (but always without flash). However, there are rules that need to be followed to keep this space a safe one, such as: not picking up the cats, not being tough with them, and just general rules like respecting their space and not causing them harm.
There is a variety of cats in the cat room to get to know and play with. From younger, playful kitties, to older or special cats that might be disabled or have chronic problems. Nonetheless, all of the cats here are healthy.

“La Gatoteca” is responsible for finding homes for over 450 cats, and thanks to the support of the public, they can continue running this space to maintain the well-being of these cats and find their future homes.
