Supporters of the “Ley Trans”

A protestor holds a sign that protests against “TERFs,” a derogatory acronym that stands for Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminists. Madrid women’s groups and unions were divided over a 2023 Spanish law, known as the Ley Trans, which allowed people over 16 to legally change their gender on government-issued identification. The disagreement over this law was so great that the annual Women’s Day march split into two demonstrations with two separate routes. Demonstrators in the main route, pictured here, support the Ley Trans.
